Charles Drew Family Resource Center
Charles Drew Family Resource Center is a unique educational institution that provides a range of programs and services to support students with diverse needs. The center offers a sequential, competency-based curriculum that allows students to work at their own rate, with teacher-directed instruction and participation as integral parts of the program. Its non-traditional environment increases the individualization of instruction. Key programs include the Teen Parent Program, Head Start, Preschool Learning Activities Classroom Experiences (PLACE), and Adult General Education, which comprises Adult Basic Education (ABE), General Educational Development (GED), and English for speakers of other languages. The center's curriculum is based on child-initiated learning, fostering positive self-concepts and social skills while enhancing language acquisition. Students participate in whole-class and small-group instruction, with individualized instruction developed to meet each student's specific educational needs. The center also offers a unique environment that allows for individualized instruction and provides opportunities for students to participate in mentoring and social programs. Additionally, it has a Health Center with a Healthy Start nurse and a registered nurse, and students who qualify for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) can do so on-site.
